Blazer Goalkeepers Show Resilience

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Blazers are drawing attention to three different teams and four individuals for their outstanding work in the net. All 4 players Collin Liedke (Men's Soccer), Kaitlyn Lynes (Field Hockey), Gianna Liquori (Women's Soccer), and Angela Picheo (Women's Soccer) had a total of 41 saves this past week.

Men's Soccer:

The Elms College men's soccer team faced off against St. Joseph (CT) Blue Jays this past Saturday, Sept. 10th and the MCLA Trailblazers on Tuesday, Sept 13th. Senior goalkeeper Collin Liedke (Newington, CT) started in goal for the Blazers in both contests. In the game against the Blue Jays, Liedke had a total of 11 saves out of nineteen shots on-goal. As well as attaining 5 more saves out of six shots on-goalduring the game against the Trailblazers. 

Liedke ended the week going 16-25 for saves off of shots on-goal. Men's soccer plays again this Saturday, Sept. 17th against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats at 2 PM.

Women's Soccer:

The Elms College women's soccer team had a home match against the Emmanuel Saints on Saturday, Sept. 10th and were on the road last night against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats. The Blazers Goalkeepers junior Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, NJ) and junior Gianna Liquori (East Longmeadow, MA) had a combined 14 saves for the week. 

Picheo started and played the full 90 minutes against the Emmanuel Saints this past Saturday. With a total of 9 shots on goal by the Saints, the junior from New Jersey had 7 saves. 

Wednesday's match against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats, junior Liquori started in goal and played for a full 90 minutes. Liquori defended the net wll and saved 7 out of the 11 shots on-goal by the Wildcats. 

The Blazers womens' goalkeepers ended the week going 14-20 for saves off of shots on-goal. The women play again on Saturday, Sept. 14th on Leary Field against the Keene St. Owls at 11 AM.

Field Hockey:

The Blazers field hockey team had their home opener this past Wednesday, Sept. 14th against the Nichols Bison. Goalkeeper Kailtyn Lynes started in the net for the Blazers and played the full 45 minutes. The first year from South Hadley, MA fought through the offensive push by the Bison and had 11 saves out of the 17 shots on-goal.

The Elms College field hockey team is back on Leary Field Saturday, Sept. 17th to challenge the Union Duchwomen at 5 PM.
