Elms College Athletics Says Goodbye to Mariann Ingraham After 31 Years as Head of Athletic Training

CHICOPEE, MA - The Athletic Department and Blazer Athletes are saying goodbye to a key component within the Athletic Training offices. After 31 years, Mariann Ingraham announced her retirement this past 2022 spring season.

Ingraham had been a part of the Elms community for 3 years as an associate, and shortly after that was named the Head Athletic Trainer and Senior Woman Administrator for the Blazer Athletic Program. She continued as the Head AT for 28 years.

Aside from being the Head Athletic Trainer here at Elms, Ingraham had also taught classes. Some of the classes she taught were prevention and care of athletic injuries, basic swimming, swimming for wellness, walking for wellness, volleyball, and lifeguard training. For a period of time, she also served as the Assistant Swim Coach and Director of Aquatics.

During Ingraham's time here at Elms she got to witness first hand the campus community change from an all womens college to coed. Alongside Cheryl R. Condon, Ingraham was the Head AT when the first men's teams joined the Blazer family back in 1999. She was a part of an important change that occurred on our campus and forever changed the dynamics of a once all womens catholic college.

"As Head Athletic Trainer, she provided prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injuries to over 200 of our STUDENT-athletes – and most recently has provided unwavering support to Health Services and, by extension, to the Elms Community in the battle against COVID on campus.  She assisted in testing students and employees and we thank her for keeping us safe." - Athletic Director Michael Theulen

The many coaches that got to work alongside Ingraham, athletes that have been cared for and helped, thank her for all she has done for us. The Elms Athletic department and Blazer family will miss her within the Athletic Trainers office and at athletic contests on campus. We wish Mariann nothing but the best on her next chapter in life, and to enjoy her grandchildren!
