Blazers Support Our Local Community

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Athletic Department recently took part in a food drive sponsored by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). From Oct. 12 – Nov 1, 2021, the Blazer athletes collected over 500 food items that will be given to The Gray House.

Director of SAAC and head women's basketball coach Michelle Proulx was asked about this year's food drive, "we are so happy that we were able to have such a great showing this year with our annual food drive. We are so proud of our athletes and coaches for leading and setting a great example to our community."

The Gray House is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) social service agency in the North End of Springfield, Massachusetts.  The mission of The Gray House is to help its neighbors facing hardships to meet their immediate and transitional needs by providing food, clothing, and educational services in a safe, positive environment.

Senior softball player Ryanne Fournier (Longmeadow, MA), who is this year's President of SACC, had this to say about the food drive. "Doing the food drive for The Gray House was a huge success. It is something that I wanted to prioritize doing as SAAC President since there was such a loss of supply for these amazing places due to COVID. Athletics alone was able to donate about 7-8 huge boxes of canned and boxed goods, filled to the brim! It felt so good to see so many of my peers come together and support such an amazing cause. This is what being a Blazer is all about!"
