Women's Cross Country Fourth At NECC Championship

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's cross country squads raced at the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Cross Country Championships at Stanley Park Saturday afternoon.

For the women's team, junior Sarah Tatgenhorst (Winterport, Maine) claimed All-NECC First Team honors after crossing the finish line sixth overall in a time of 20:14, setting a new Elms College school record on any 8k course. Freshman Mary Kirsimagi (Stephentown, N.Y.) placed 19th with a time of 22:51, followed by freshman Emma Morton (Southwick, Mass.), who finished 21st with a personal-best time of 22:59. Junior Sarah Kaczenski (Northfield, Mass.) took 27th overall at 23:41, trailed by freshman Ariah Willemain (Belchertown, Mass.) by just one second in 28th at 23:42. Freshman Emily Guillerault (East Granby, Conn.) rounded out the Blazers runners, finishing 43rd with a time of 25:53.

On the men's squad, freshman Rich Hernandez (North Branford, Conn.) earned All-NECC Second Team honors after finishing 12th overall with a time of 30:06, besting his previous personal best by nearly a minute and a half. Senior Joshua Diaz Rolon (Chicopee, Mass.) placed 18th with a time of 31:48.

The Blazers will return to action for the NCAA Division III New England Championship at Stanley Park Saturday afternoon.
