Blazers Fall In Straight Sets At WPI

Worcetser, MA – The Elms College Women's Volleyball team traveled to Worcester Polytechnic Institute for a non-conference volleyball match on Tuesday evening. The hosts would take the match by set scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-24 for a straight sets win.

After a back-and-forth start to set one that saw the two teams tied 3-3, WPI rattled off 21 of the next 25 points to take a commanding 24-7 advantage and eventually take the opening set 25-11.

The Blazers built up an 18-15 lead in the middle set, only to see the Crimson and Gray used a 10-4 spurt to take a 2-0 set advantage. 

In set three, the hosts netted the opening four points and never trailed en route to a 3-0 victory..

Alanys Cruz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) was outstanding for the Blazers, hitting .500 with 11 kills and just error in 20 attempts.  She stuffed the stat sheets with five digs and a block assist.  Natalia Caraballo (Arlington, TX) chipped in with eight kills and Dakata Stewart (Victoria, TX) narrowly missed a double-double with team-bests in assists (20) and digs (9). 

The Blazers are back on the court Thursday 9/12 when they travel to St. Joseph (CT) at 7:00PM.
