Women's Swimming Picks Up Dramatic Win At Norwich; Men Fall Just Short

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Elms College women's swim team gutted out a 116-107 win at Norwich while the Blazer men fell 129-90 to the Cadets on Tuesday.

The Blazer women won the final event – the 200-yard freestyle relay – by less than a second to earn the slim victory. Julianne Gordon, Aislinn Carrier, Brittany North and Cricket Cavar teamed up for the relay victory, which capped an exhilarating Blazer comeback. Elms swimmers won the final three events, including the 50-yard butterfly and the 100-yard individual medley prior to the 200-yard freestyle relay, to put the Blazers in position for the win.

Brittany North won the 50-yard butterfly in 33.69 while teammate Victoria Wanko finished second in 39.48 as Elms picked up 14 crucial points in the event. The Blazers earned 11 more points in the meet's penultimate event, as Cavar won the 100-yard IM in 1:12.21 and Amanda Rotberg finished fourth in 1:28.76 to give Elms the overall lead heading into the decisive relay.

Tony Luciani paced the Elms men with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.09) and a second-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly (31.55). Eddie Capoldo won the 100 IM (1:00.68) and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:34.14).

Elms returns home for its Senior Day on Jan. 20 when the Blazers host Regis (Mass.) in Partyka Natatorium at 11:00 a.m.
