Women’s Soccer Bests Lesley Univ. 3-1 In NECC Action

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's soccer team defeated the visiting Lesley University Linx 3-1 on Saturday afternoon on Leary Field. With the win the Blazers improve to (7-5-2) overall and (2-0-1) in NECC play.

The Linx got off to a fast start, taking a 1-0 lead just over 13 minutes into the game. Lesley would look to extend their lead, pressuring the Blazers goal, but strong play from the Elms backline would keep the Linx at bay. The Blazers would start to mount some offensive pressure of their own, and in the 30th minute were awarded a free kick from the top of the Lesley 18 yard box. Morgan Foucault (Putnam, CT) would step up and deliver a thunderous strike around the Linx wall and into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.

The second half saw the Linx come out and control the game. Lesley would have the ball in the Blazer end for most of the opening 20 minutes, however more strong play from the Blazers backline and timely saves from Becca Molin (West Hartford, CT) would keep the game tied.

For a second time in the game the Blazers would start to push back and apply pressure to the Lesley goal. This would pay off at the 77:28 mark when Zaya Clark (Springfield, MA) was able to dribble past a Linx defender and hit a shot that found its way into the back of the net, giving Elms a 2-1 advantage. Clark was not done yet, and would give the Blazers an insurance goal. With only five minutes to play Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) served a ball over the Lesley backline that found Clark, who was able the to control the pass and chip the Linx keeper for her second marker of the game, solidifying the win for the Blazers.

Molin stood tall all game for Elms, and ended up with eight saves.

The Blazers are back in action on Wednesday 10/16 when they host Salem State at 7PM in non-conference action.
