Blazers Wrangle Chargers In Double Overtime

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's Soccer team picked up a big 2-1 2OT win over the visiting Chargers of Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon at Leary Field.

The Blazers and Chargers were involved in a about as close of a game as possible. The two teams took 11 shots, both keepers had seven saves, each team took three corners and it would take two overtime periods to find a winner.

The Chargers opened the scoring at the 69:43 mark of the second half when Sydney Jimmo collected a deflected shot and found herself standing in front of an open Blazer net, where she would finish and give her side the lead.  

Elms would not waste any time evening things up and would find the equalizer in less than two minutes. Haley Richard (Monson, MA) would send a perfect through ball in to Sydney Goodwin (Lawrence, MA), Goodwin was able to collect the ball and beat the Colby-Sawyer keeper and tie things up at 1-1.

The game would remain tied until the 106th minute when 1st year Elaina Vilar (Watertown, CT) was able to dribble past a defender and found herself 1v1 with the Chargers keeper, and hit a perfect chip into the back of the net to deliver a 2-1 Blazer win.

Becca Molin (West Hartford, CT) was pivotal in the win for the Blazers making seven saves, including a breakaway in the first OT.

The Blazers are back in action today 9/8 when they host Thomas College at 1:00PM on Leary Field.
