Blazers Breeze Past Mitchell And Into The NECC Semi-Finals

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Mitchell College on Tuesday night in the first round of the NECC playoffs. The Blazers would dominate the Mariners and take the playoff win 21-6. Elms will move on to a Semi-final matchup at New England College.

The Blazers came out and showed why they were the higher seed scoring two goals in the first minute of play and adding a third at the 24:34 mark. Mitchell would net their first goal of the game to cut the Blazer lead to 3-1. The two team would combine for three more goals before the half time whistle giving the Blazers a 5-2 lead at the break.

Elms would take full control of the contest in the first five minutes of the second half pumping in six straight goals. The Blazers would go on to score 10 of the next 14 goals in the contest and win convincingly 21-6.

Vanessa Vurno (Salem, CT) and Haley Richard (Monson, MA) led the way for the Blazers. Vurno would finish with seven goals, two assists, and three groundballs. Richard was equally as good, racking up five goals, four assists, six draw controls, and two groundballs. Elese Ciarcia (Glastonbury, CT) and Alli Zadworny (Northampton, MA) would pitch in combining for seven goals.

Emily Hubber (Jefferson, ME) only needed to face nine shots on the day stopping 3 and picking up the win.

The Blazers will travel to New England College on Thursday for the NECC semi-finals at 7pm and a chance to move on to the NECC championship.
