Blazers Start the 2019 Season with a Win

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team started their 2019 season with a dominant 14-4 non-conference win over the University of St. Joseph CT Wednesday night.

The Blazers came out of the gate strong with 4 goals from four different players in the first five minutes.  St. Joe's would answer with a goal from Taya Valdez (East Lyme, CT.) only to see the Blazers net 9 more goals over the next nineteen minutes and hold a 13-2 advantage going into the half.

The second half was cut ten minutes short due to the cold weather but saw SJU take advantage of two free position opportunities. Haley Richard (Monson, MA.) had the only goal of the half for the Blazers.  Richard would end up with 5 goals on 5 shots. Alecia Keesee (Westfield, MA.) and Alli Zadworny (Northampton, MA.) pitched in with three goals apiece. Emily Huber (Jefferson, ME.) had 6 saves on 10 shots.

The Blue Jays top performers were Taya Valdez (East Lyme, CT.) who had 2 goals and Silvana Barcomb (Middletown, CT.) who had 5 saves.

The Blazers are back in action on Saturday the 9th at 1pm when they travel to MCLA for a non-conference game.
