Blazers Suffer Set Back With Hawks

Chicopee, MA - The Elms College women's basketball team dropped a tough (68-63) conference game to the visiting Becker College Hawks on Tuesday night. The set-back ends the Blazers three game winning streak, and puts them at (8-14) overall and (4-7) in NECC play on the season.

The conference matchup saw back and forth play throughout, with multiple lead changes and ties. Neither team was able to create any separation until late in the fourth quarter.

Elms would start the second quarter trailing by three (21-18). The Blazers would win the second quarter (19-16), and go into halftime all tied up at (37-37).  The second half saw the Blazers jump out front (44-43) on a jump shot from Waleska Kelly (Central Falls, RI). The Hawks took back the lead on the following possession and held a slim two point lead (53-51) going into the fourth.

The final quarter was a battle, with both teams coming up with big baskets the offensive end, and big stops on defense.  Rachel Granger (Hampden, MA) hit a big jump shot with 5:15 to play that tied the score at (59-59). The visitors created separation by scoring eight of the next 10 points, taking a (67-61) lead with 22 seconds to play, and eventually took the (68-63) win.

Elms had three players in double-digit scoring in the game. Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA) finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Kelly picked up 12 points, Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, CT) led the way with a double-double, scoring 15 points while collecting 10 rebounds and seven assists.

The Blazers are back in action on Saturday 2/15 when they travel to New England College for another NECC matchup.
