Women’s Basketball Falls At Becker In NECC Action

Leicester, MA – The Elms College women's basketball team battled hard but came up short in a 70-56 loss at Becker College on Tuesday night. The setback puts the blazers at 5-12 overall and 2-5 in NECC play.

After a 14-14 first quarter score and trading baskets early in the second quarter, the Hawks took the first substantial lead of the game, using a 12-2 run over 4:41 to take a 10-point lead late in the first half.

 Elms trailed by eight at halftime and came out with some early momentum, scoring six of the first eight points of the half to pull within four, 36-32.

The Hawks answered the Blazers spurt, going on their very own 8-0 run in 59 seconds, stretching the lead back out to a dozen. The Hawks led 55-39 through three quarters.

Becker stretched their lead to as many as 19 late in the fourth quarter on their way to the 14-point win.

Daija Black (Germantown, MD) led the way with 11 points, and Rachel Granger (Hampden, MA) added 11 points off the bench. Waleska Kelly (Central Falls, RI) was big on the boards grabbing 12 rebounds in the game.

The Blazers are back on the court Saturday 1/25 at 1PM when they host Mitchell College in NECC play.
