Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short At Wentworth

Boston, MA – The Elms College women's basketball team dropped a road game on Saturday afternoon at the Wentworth Institute of Technology 66-52. The loss puts the Blazers at 3-6 on the season.

The Leopards got off to a fast start, outscoring Elms 21-12 and shooting 47.1% from the floor in the first quarter. A 10-0 run set the Leopards out in front early before Elms made its first two buckets on freebies from the line. Elms connected on just two shots from the floor during the first ten minutes, but bucketed seven points from free throws.

Elms stayed with Wentworth in the second quarter and came up one short in scoring, 15-14. Paced by 50% shooting from the floor and seven points off the bench from Shannon Cullen (Brookfield, CT), Elms trailed Wentworth by eight points at halftime (35-27)

Wentworth kept its eight-point lead after the third quarter concluded, as each team booked 12 points apiece, with four points coming from Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, CT).

Elms sliced the deficit to two possessions after a 3-0 spurt from McKenzie Huria (Terryville, CT) to begin fourth-quarter action, but a clutch three-pointer by the Leopards brought the lead back to eight, 50-42. The Leopards would closed the game on a 16-10 run on their way to the (66-52) win.

Huria would lead the Blazers with 13 points, Cullen would add 12 from the bench.

Elms is back in action on Sunday 12/30 against Alfred College in the Hat City Tournament at Western Connecticut University.
