Blazers Handle Lyons On The Road

South Hadley, MA - The Elms College Women's basketball team picked up a 70-53 road win at Mount Holyoke College on Wednesday night. The win pushes the Blazers to (3-5) on the season and (1-0) in conference play. The game would also see a Blazer record fall. Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA) would pick up three blocks in the game and become the all-time program leader with (119).

The first quarter saw the home side jump put front to a 9-2 lead. Elms would battle back and go on 5-0 run to close the gap, and jump out front of the Lyons, taking a 17-14 advantage into the break. Shannon Cullen (Brookfield, CT) was big for the Blazers, dropping in seven first quarter points.

With the score 23-20 in the second quarter, the Blazers would go on a eight point run and extend their lead. Elms would get the last basket of the opening half and head to the locker room up 30-23.

The second half was all Elms, the Blazers would dominate the third quarter and pull away from the Lyons. Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, CT) would pick up six points and Peguero-Flores would add eight as well two blocks, one being the record breaker. Mt. Holyoke would try and battle back, but the Blazer lead was too big to overcome. Elms would take the road game 70-53.

Mount Holyoke College was 20-for-67 (29.9%) from the field in the setback, while Elms was 29-for-76 (38.2%) over 40 minutes of play.

Elms is back in action on Saturday 12/14 at 1PM when they travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology for a non-conference game.
