Softball Swept In NECC Doubleheader At Becker

Leicester, Mass. — The Elms College Softball Team was on the road for an NECC double-header at Becker College Saturday afternoon. The Blazers would drop both games, losing game one 8-3 and game two 5-1.

Game one / Becker 8, Elms 3

The Hawks were able to take an early four-run lead, scoring one run in the top of the first and three more in the bottom of the second. The Blazers were able to get one run back in the top of the third on a single from Madison Messier (Warren, MA), which scored Katelyn Sylvia (Southwick, MA).

Elms was able to get two more runs in the top of the fourth on a Tea Sullivan (Dracut, MA) sacrifice fly and another run on a Sylvia single to center field. The Hawks would answer right back in the bottom of the fifth, plating two runs, to extend their lead to five, and take game one 8-3.

The Blazers pick up 12 hits in the game and would leave seven runners on base.

Ashley Veillette would pick up the win for the Hawks. Lisa Lusardi (Enfield, CT) would take the loss for the Blazers.

Game two / Becker 5, Elms 1

Once again, the Hawks were able to take an early lead, plating one run in the bottom of the second and third, and two more in the bottom of the fourth. The Blazers would get one back in the top of the sixth on a Sylvia home run over the left field fence.

That would be the only run of the game for the Blazers, and they would come up short in the 5-1 loss.

Samantha Belenchia would pick up the win for the Hawks.

Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, CT) would get the loss for the Blazers.

Elms was scheduled to host New England College on Sunday; however, due to inclement weather, the Blazers will travel to NEC for a big NECC double-header at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
