Four Players Named All-NECC in Softball

Elms College placed four softball players on the 2013 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) all-conference teams as announced by the league office on Monday.

Elms College freshman left fielder Taylor Skinner (South Windsor, Conn.) was 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, but Lesley University used a five-run third inning and three hits each from Emily Mangiaratti (Amherst, Mass.) and Nicole Mercurio (Wakefield, Mass.) to help lift the top-seeded Lynx to a 9-4 win over the fourth-seeded Blazers in Friday morning’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament softball game.

Elms College junior left fielder Kellie McLaughlin (Pittsfield, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs and the fourth-seeded Blazers battled back from a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings, but No. 3 Newbury College scored seven runs in the extra frame to help pace the Nighthawks to a 10-6 victory in Friday afternoon’s New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament softball game.
