Blazer XC Turns In Impressive Showing At Mitchell Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Elms College men's and women's cross country teams had a successful morning at the Mitchell College Invitational on Saturday. Emily Guillerault led the Blazer women with a 10th-place finish while Ricky Elmer finished 16th to lead the Blazer men.

Guillerault finished the 5k course in 22:16.4 and finished second among New England Collegiate Conference competitors. The top nine finishers in the race came from Utica College, led by medalist Kaitlyn Stinson (19:15.5).

Tyana Medina finished in 15th place with a time of 23:12.7 and Keara Moulton was just behind, finishing 17th (23:21.6). Alana Bessette (26:13.8) and Julia Trezza (26:25.9) finished 24th and 25th, respectively for Elms in the 37-person race.

Utica also dominated the men's race, earning the top eight finishes led by Mitchell Marlow (16:28.8) on the 5k course. Elmer finished fifth among NECC runners in the race that featured conference rivals Mitchell, Newbury, Dean and Lesley.

The Blazer men had a pack of runners finish in just over 20 minutes. Donald Cianciolo finished 28th in 20:09.5 followed by Robert Culhane in 29th (20:26.3), Rich Hernandez in 30th (20:30.3) and Derek Waid in 31st (20:32.3). Brendan Curley took 34th (21:40.2) while Bennett McCreary finished 37th (22:45.0) and Adrian Wong finished 41st (24:29.4) for the Blazers.

The Blazers will return to action on Sept. 22 when they host the annual Blazer Invitational.
