Women Second, Men Fourth At NECC XC Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College women's cross country team finished second overall, while the men's team placed fourth at the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) at Stanley Park Saturday afternoon.

On the women's side, senior Sarah Tatgenhorst (Winterport, Maine) earned All-NECC First Team honors for the second straight season after finishing third overall with a time of 20:52. Freshman Keara Moulton (Ashburham, Mass.) placed 13th overall at 22:58, while classmate Tyana Medina (Springfield, Mass.) was one spot back in 14th with a time of 23:21, allowing both first-years to claim All-NECC Second Team status. Sophomore Emily Guillerault (East Granby, Mass.) took 17th at 23:45, and sophomore Ariah Willemain (Belchertown, Mass.) was one second back at 23:46 for 18th overall. Senior Sarah Kaczenski (Northfield, Mass.) finished 23rd with a time of 24:56, freshman Julia Trezza (Wilbraham, Mass.) placed 26th at 25:03, and junior Alyssa Barnes (Pittsfield, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers runners at 42nd with a time of 30:07.

For the men's team, sophomore Rich Hernandez (North Branford, Conn.) picked up back-to-back All-NECC Second Team honors after finishing 10th overall with a time of 31:18. Freshman Donald Cianciolo (Waterbury, Conn.) placed 16th with a time of 32:47, while classmate Robert Culhane (Hampden, Mass.) was two spots back in 18th with a time of 33:33. Freshman Brendan Curley (Chicopee, Mass.) took 21st at 34:56, and junior Kevin Corcoran (Waterbury, Conn.) logged a 25th-place finish with a time of 36:15 to complete the men's squad.

Southern Vermont won the 2017 NECC Men's Championship, and Lesley University claimed the 2017 Women's Championship.

The Blazers will be back in action at the New England Division III Championship at the Gorham Country Club in Gorham, Maine on November 11th.
