Women Second, Men Third At Mitchell College Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Elms College men's and women's cross country team returned to action at the Mitchell College Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Blazers women's team placed second overall, while the men's team took third on the team leaderboard.

For the women's team, senior Sarah Tatgenhorst (Winterport, Maine) was edged out for the individual title by less than two seconds by Lesley's Amy Bouchard, taking second with a time of 21:16. In their first action of the season, freshmen Julia Trezza () and Tyana Medina (Springfield, Mass.) notched top-10 finishes, placing ninth and tenth, respectively, with times of 23:43 and 24:04. Sophomore Emma Morton (Southwick, Mass.) finished 12th with a time of 24:18, followed by classmate Ariah Willemain (24:32; Belchertown, Mass.) at 15th, and freshman Keara Moulton (24:44; ) in 16th. Junior Alyssa Barnes (Pittsfield, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers runners, taking 32nd with a time of 32:32.

On the men's side, sophomore Rich Hernandez (North Branford, Conn.) placed ninth overall with a time of 19:27. Freshman Donald Cianciolo (Waterbury, Conn.) was two spots back in 11th at 19:57, followed by freshman Robert Culhane (Hampden, Mass.) in 16th with a time of 21:29. Junior Kevin Corcoran (Waterbury, Conn.) took 20th at 22:33, and classmate Brendan Curley (Chicopee, Mass.) claimed 23rd with a time of 23:20 to complete the Blazers field.

The Blazers will be back on the course when they host the Blazer Classic Invitational at Chicopee State Park Saturday afternoon.
