Jovanny Torres And Jeremy Torres Earn AVCA All-American Honors
Chicopee, MA - Elms College Men's Volleyball sophomores Jovanny Torres and Jeremy Torres were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Second Team, as announced by the organization.
Jeremy Torres' (Juncos,P.R.)2019 campaign was beyond impressive, the sophomore outside's year included the following stats: 3.62 kills per set (362 total), a .299 hitting percentage, 1.94 digs per set (194 total), and 401 points (4.0 per set) in 33 matches played. Torres also recorded 23 kills in a win over #3 Stevens.
Torres ranks 15th nationally in kills per set, 22nd in points per set and 50th in hitting percentage.
Torres also picked up New England Collegiate Conference player of the week honors four times, was selected 1st Team All-Conference and NECC Player of the Year in 2019.
Jovanny Torres (Juncos, P.R.) would follow up his 2018 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and National New Comer of the Year awards by earning Second Team All-America Honors in 2019.
Torres would finish his sophomore with the following stats: 3.57 kills per set (332 total), a .254 hitting percentage, 2.12 digs per set (197 total), and 389 points (4.2 per set) in 32 matches played. Torres picked up 17 kills and 10 digs in a win over #7 New Paltz.
Torres ranks 17th nationally in kills per set, and 16th in points per set.
Torres was selected 1st team All-Conference by the NECC in 2019
The Blazers finished the 2019 season with the highest regional ranking (3rd) and national ranking (5th) in program history. They also smashed the single season win total winning 28 matches, the previous total was 20.
