#12 Men’s Volleyball Dominates Dean and Upsets #4 Stevens In Tri-Match

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Men's Volleyball team picked up two wins on Saturday afternoon in a tri-match with Dean College and Stevens Institute of Technology.

 

Game 1 – ELMS 3, DEAN 0

The Blazers jumped out in front of the Bulldogs early and never looked back, taking the match (25-6, 25-10, 25-8). Multiple Blazers contributed to the win with seven different players having multiple kills. John Dunphy (Farmington, CT) had 32 assists in the match and David Hernandez (Manati, P.R.) led the way with 9 kills.  

The win pushed the Blazers winning streak to 10.

 

Game 2 – ELMS 3, STEVENS 1

Game 2 saw a matchup between two top 15 teams in the country. The Blazers came in ranked 12th while the visiting Ducks were 4th. Elms would complete the upset and take the match 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 25-17).

The Blazers came out with all the momentum and took it to the Ducks. Jeremy and Jovanny Torres (Juncos, P.R) would be huge all match and seemed to come up with big point after big point. The Torreses would finish the match with a combined 37 kills and 17 digs. The Blazers had big performances from several other players in the massive win: Luis Martinez (Bayamon, P.R) had nine kills and Jake Johnson (Warwick, R.I.) pitched in with 5 kills. Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.) and John Dunphy (Farmington, CT) were also big for the Blazers combining for 49 assists in the match.

Saturday's win is one of the biggest in program history and extends the winning streak to 11.

The Blazers are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Southern Vermont at 7 p.m.
