#13 Blazers Sweep Nighthawks And Break Single Season Win Total

Chicopee, MA - The Elms College Men's Volleyball team defeated the visiting Newbury College Nighthawks on Saturday 3-0 ( 25-12, 25-14, 25-12). The win brings the season total to 21 and breaks the program record for wins in a season.

The match started with both teams exchanging points. The Blazers held a slim 6-5 lead when two attack errors by the Nighthawks and a service ace from David Hernandez (Manati, P.R.) provided some separation. The Blazers would continue to build a lead behind kills from Jovanny Torres (Juncos, P.R.) and Luis Martinez (Bayamon, P.R.). Elms would finish off the opening set on a service ace from Hernandez.

Elms would get off to a quick 4-0 start to the second set behind two kills from Daniel Martinez (Bayamon, P.R.). Newbury would respond by winning 8 of the next 10 points and take a 9-6 lead in the set.  The Blazers would capitalize on multiple attack errors by the Nighthawks and 2 kills from Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R) to pull back in front 22-13 and eventually win the set 25-14.

The third set saw the visiting Nighthawks run out of gas. Elms would build a demanding 20-9 lead on multiple Newbury errors and 2 kills from Jake Johnson (Warwick, R.I.). John Dunphy (Farmington, CT) would slam the door on the final set and the match with a kill from Antonio Delgado (Aibonito, P.R.)

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday night when they host (NECC) rival Endicott College at 7pm.
