Blazers Come Up Short In NECC Semi-Finals

Cambridge, MA – The Elms College men's soccer team saw their run to the New England Collegiate Conference championship come to an end Thursday night at Lesley University. The Blazers would fall to the Linx 2-0 in the NECC semi-finals on rain soaked BB&N field.

Elms would come out and take control of the game early on, applying pressure on the Lesley backline and keeper. The Blazer pressure would produce five corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of play, but Elms was unable to convert on any of their early opportunities. The game would then settle in and see both teams battle for possession. The Linx were able to break through and open up the scoring at the 27:17 mark, and take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half would start with both team vying for possession, and the Blazers looking for the equalizer. Elms would spend most of the half in the offensive end of the field, but could not create any quality scoring chances. The best chance for the Blazers came off a free kick from 22 yards out, Alex Egan (Watertown, MA) would step up and bend a shot just over the crossbar. The semi-final game would remain tied until the Linx were awarded a corner kick in the 72nd minute and would capitalize, extending the lead to 2-0.

Elms would continue to fight hard and look to get on the board, but were never able to find the back of the Lesley net. The Blazers would see their season come to end in the 2-0 loss.
