Blazers Headed To The MASCAC Men's Golf Championship October 5-6

The 2019 MASCAC Golf Championship will tee off on Saturday, October 5 at Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston, Massachusetts. The championship, hosted by Springfield College, is a two day, 36-hole stroke play tournament. There will be nine teams competing- Dean College, Eastern Nazarene College, Elms College, MCLA, Mitchell College, Salem State University, Springfield College, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. 

Over the summer, Dean, Eastern Nazarene, Elms, Mitchell and Springfield joined the MASCAC as affiliates this year from the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

Springfield, the 2018 NECC Men's Golf champions return their entire line-up from a year ago, which includes the 2018 NECC Golfer of the Year, Jakob Raichle and the 2018 runner-up Mike Strong. Strong, a two-time MASCAC Athlete of the Week this year, had his best showing at the Blazer Fall Invitational where he shot a 71 and followed it up with a 72 that resulted in four hole playoff. 

Westfield State, the reigning MASCAC Champions, have won four straight tournaments to start the 2019 season. At the Blazer Invitational, Ryan Koczela claimed the individual title after besting the field in the four-hole playoff, shooting a two-day total of 143 (70-73) while the Owls earned the title with a total score of 597, five strokes ahead of the second place team.

Salem State has competed in two tournaments this season. At the Williams Invitational, Ian Paskowski led the way for the Vikings with a two-day total of 157 (80-77) while Max Emmerich was the top Viking at the Duke Nelson Tournament hosted by Middlebury with a two-round score of 79 -75-154.

Elms finished first as a team at the Mitchell Invitational earlier this week. The Blazers carded a team round of 319. Leading the way for the Blazers was Frankie Murray, who's 77 was good enough for second place overall for the tournament. The Blazers also took first at the Emmanuel Invitational on September 10th with a team score of 322, Frankie Murray lead the way again for the Blazers with a score of 76 and a first place overall finish.

For Worcester State, the Lancers saw their best team finish on September 19 at the Brett Williamson invitational hosted by Westfield State. Jacob Poitras tied for 11th with a 78 on the day while the team combined for a score of 334. 

Mitchell has been busy so far this season, competing in seven different tournaments, including hosting three. The team shot their lowest round of the year with a 335. Michael McCarthy was tied for second with one day total of 77. 

Eastern Nazarene's most recent competition was the Albertus Magnus Invitational on September 27 which saw Michael Dietz finish tied for third with a 79 on the day while the team had a score of 374 for third place.

Dean topped the leaderboard at the Mitchell College invitational on September 26 with an overall team score of 311. The Bulldogs were led by Michael McAuliffe who carded a 79 for a third place finish.

For MCLA, Reese Dwyer was the individual champion at the Brett Williamson Invitational with a round of 72 while the Trailblazers collected a team score of 348 on the day.
