Field Hockey Tripped Up By Pilgrims

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College field hockey team dropped a tough conference game to the New England College Pilgrims on Tuesday night 3-2. The Blazers slip to (3-11) overall and (0-3) in conference.

Elms College was able to strike early on as they scored on their second shot of the game just three minutes in on an unassisted goal from Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, CA). The Blazers would carry the play in the opening quarter, and go into the break with a 1-0 lead.  The second quarter saw back and forth action with the Blazers nearly doubling their lead on shots from Madison Gable (Agawam, MA) and Ramirez, however Elms could not extend the lead. The Pilgrims were able to tie the game up right before halftime at 1-1 with only three minutes left.
 
The second half started with the Blazers on the attack, Ramirez would get off several shots, but the Pilgrims keeper kept the game tied. Seven minutes in NEC was able to take their first lead of the contest, scoring the go-ahead goal. Elms would battle back and eventually tie the game off of a converted penalty corner, Ellie Serra (Palmer, MA) would find the back of the cage from a Gabble assist as time expired to end the third quarter.

The Pilgrims would find the go-ahead-goal just two minutes into the final quarter, and were able to hold on for the win despite continued pressure from the Blazers.

Nora Newman (Woburn, MA) would finish with eight saves for the Blazers.

Elms is back in action on Saturday 10/19 when they host Thomas College at 11AM in (NECC) action.
