Late Surge Sends Field Hockey Past Raiders

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College field hockey team defeated the visiting Raiders of Rivier University last night 2-1. With the win the Blazers improve to 2-6 on the season.

Elms got off to a great start, dominating the first two quarters and peppering the Rivier cage with multiple shots (8) and penalty corners (7). The Blazers we unable to take advantage and would go into the break tied 0-0.

The visitors would have the momentum at the start of the third quarter and opened up the scoring at the 30:18 mark. The Raiders would take the 1-0 lead into the fourth.

The Blazers would not be denied on their home field. Elms would get off (7) shots and (5) penalty corners in the final 15 minutes of play, and this time would take advantage of their opportunities. Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, CA) would tie things up for Elms in the 55th minute. The Blazers would waste any time and would find the go-ahead-goal less than two minutes later. Ramirez would set up Olivia Keane (Enfield, CT) for the eventual game winner.

Kean was big for the Blazers all game, taking (7) total shots, hitting the frame with (5) of them. Nora Newman (Woburn, MA) made five saves in the win.

Elms is back in action on Saturday 9/29 when they host Gordon College at 2:00PM.
