Field Hockey Drops Home Opener To Sage

Chicopee, MA— The Elms College Field Hockey team dropped its home opener on Wednesday afternoon to the visiting Sage College Gators 4-1. With the loss the Blazers fall to 1-3 on the young season.

The two teams would go back and forth in the opening quarter with the Blazers getting the better of the play. The second quarter would see Sage start to pull away, the Gators would strike first at the 22:00 minute mark of the game and would take a 1-0 lead into the half.

Sage would continue to pull away in the third quarter, and extend their lead in the 31st minute and again in the 34th minute, to hold a 3-0 advantage.

The Gators would add a fourth goal at the 43:13 mark to push the lead to 4-0.

Elms got on the score board after a series of shots off back to back corners, the Gators keeper was able to make the initial save before Erin Thibodeau (East Longmeadow, MA) set up Brittany North (Palmer, MA)  for the Blazers goal at the 2:18 mark.

Oliva Keane (Enfield, CT) and Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, CA) each had three shots on the day, sophomore goalie Nora Newman (Woburn, MA) made 11 saves in goal for the Blazers.  

Elms is back in action on Saturday 9/14 when they host WPI at 11:00AM
