Field Hockey Drops Opener On The Road At Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Elms College Field Hockey team come up a little short in their season opener at Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, losing 4-2.

Note: Field Hockey has been broken into four quarters of 15 minutes this season.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Chargers took a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the second frame when Julia Lanctot found the back of the goal. The Chargers would extend their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Rachel Fisher with only three minutes left in the half.

Elms would come out strong to start the second frame and would cut the deficit in half, early in the third quarter. Sophomore Erin Thibodeau (East Longmeadow, MA) notched an unassisted goal to make the score 2-1.

Colby-Sawyer answered two minutes later and pushed their lead back to two on a goal from Chrissy Coffield.

The Blazers would continue to battle and once again pulled to within one early in the fourth quarter. Junior Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, CA) set up junior teammate Brittany North (Palmer, CT) for a one-timer that found the back of the cage. Elms would push hard to find the equalizer but were unable to convert.

The Chargers added an insurance goal with six minutes to play, and put the game out of reach, eventually taking the 4-2 win.

Nora Newman (Woburn, MA) had three saves for the Blazers.

Colby-Sawyer had four penalty corners, while Elms had three.

The Blazers are back in action on Wednesday 9/4 at 6PM at Western Connecticut State.
