Baseball Upsets Western New England University, 5-4

Hartford, CT – The Elms College baseball team picked up its second win of the season as they defeated Western New England College, 5-4, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at DiBenedetto Stadium at Trinity College.

It was a scoreless game until the Blazers got on the board in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Cam Griffin (West Springfield, MA) knocked Jake Slahotsky (South Windsor, CT) home for a 1-0 lead. On the next at-bat, Nate Ayala (Springfield, MA) hit a double that sent Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA) and Josh Pasini (Enfield, CT) across the plate to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead.

The Golden Bears answered in the next half inning, platting four runners to give the Bears a 4-3 lead.

In the next half inning, the top of the sixth, The Blazers pulled ahead after Griffin doubled to right field that sent Galenski and Will Kennedy (Holyoke, MA) across the plate for the winning runs.

Griffin (West Springfield, MA) had a double and three runs batted in for the Blazers. Ayala (Springfield, MA) had a double with two runs batted in.

The Blazers used five different pitchers in the game. Mason Scott (Ludlow, MA) picked up the win, and Kevin Banas (hatfield, MA) was credited with the save.

Elms is back in action on Friday 3/6 at Lake Myrtle, FL. in the first two games of eight they will play down south.  The Blazers start off with a double header against conference opponent Becker College at 3:15pm and 6pm.
