Cross Country Runners Set Records at James Early Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Members of the Elms College men's and women's cross country teams recorded some of their best personal marks while competing in the James Early Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park Saturday afternoon.

For the men's team, junior Adam Kuzdzal (Chicopee, Mass.) had the top finish among the Blazers runners with a time of 31:23, which ranks as the third-fastest time in program history. Sophomore Joshua Diaz Rolon (Chicopee, Mass.) finished with a personal-best time of 32:10, followed by Shinsuke Tanaka at a personal-best 32:18. Sophomore Joseph Sirois (South Easton, Mass.) came in at 36:58, and David Antwi rounded out the Blazers runners with a personal-best time of 39:20. The men's team finished 35th out of the competitive 37-team field in the event.

The women's squad saw freshman Sarah Tatgenhorst (Winterport, Maine) break a six-year old Elms College record for fastest 5K time, posting a 20:33 mark in just her second collegiate 5K race.. Senior Rachel Lehouillier (Belchertown, Mass.) clocked in at a personal-best 21:56. Junior Emma Bernard (Springfield, Mass.) finished with a time of 22:56, trailed by freshman Sarah Kaczenski (Northfield, Mass.) in a personal-best  22:59. Freshman Caitlyn Hoschtetler posted a personal-best time of 24:13, followed by senior Shirley Ryan (Brinfield, Mass.) at 24:22, junior Jacqueline Quetti (Pittsfield, Mass.) in a personal-best 24:49, and freshman Mattie Jordan at 25:01. The Blazers took 30th place in the 37-team field.

The cross country team will be back in action at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday, October 18th.
