Blazers Drop to Rivier
Chicopee, MA – The Blazers fell to GNAC opponent Rivier University 3-1, Tuesday night in Picknelly Arena.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set remained close as the Blazers and Raiders traded kills. Mid-way through the set, the teams remained tied at 12-12 after a service run from Kianna Lozada (Bayamon, P.R.). A pair of Raider service runs saw the Blazers trailing by 6 late in the set at 14-21. The deficit was too much for the Blazers to overcome as they fell 16-25. Rivier led the match 1-0.
The second set began in similar fashion as the Blazers and Raiders were even at 7s. A Raider service run put them up 14-8, before Jaylianne Ramos Figueroa (Boca Raton, FL) pushed the Blazers to 11-15. The Blazers fell to a 4-10 point run in favor of the Raiders and lost the set 25-15. The Raiders went up 2-0.
The third set saw the Blazers come out with renewed energy as they opened the set 5-2 off a service run from Natalia Caraballo Rivera (Fajardo, P.R.). A Raider service run evened the set at 9-9 before the teams traded point for point. Tied at 22-22, the Blazers pushed for a set-point from the line as Govanna Rosado (Humacao, P.R.) aced the Raiders to go up 24-22. A kill by Alanys Cruz Diaz (Humacao, P.R.) sealed the set for the Blazers, winning 25-23. The Raiders led the match 2-1.
The fourth set began with more back-and-forth action. The Blazers saw themselves down 5 before a Caraballo Rivera service run brought them within 2 at 12-14. A late set push and a pair of kills from Cruz Diaz pushed the Blazers to 20-23. A Blazer error closed the set 20-25 and Rivier won the match 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Cruz Diaz led the Blazers with 15 kills and added 14 digs
- Christie hit a team-high .353 with 8 kills and 2 errors on 17 attempts and added 7 digs
- Rosado paced the offense with 37 assists and contributed 1 kill, 1 ace, and 3 digs
