Women’s Volleyball Drops NECC Opener To ENC

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's volleyball team opened up NECC play with a 3-1 loss to the visiting Eastern Nazarene Lions on Friday (21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-27). The Blazers slip to 6-7 on the season and 0-1 in conference.

The opening set was back and forth all the way through with neither team able to pull away. The Lions would eventually build up a five point advantage 20-15, only to see the Blazers come back and tie things up 21-21 on a service ace from Kiana Lozada (Bayamon, P.R.). ENC was able to get the lead back, scoring the next four consecutive points and take the set 25-21.

The Blazers would jump out to a big 13-4 lead in the second set, the Lions would come all they back and tie things up at 21-21. Elms would get a huge kill from Jaylianne Ramos (Toa Alta, P.R.) on an assist from Dakota Stewart (Victoria, TX) to jump back in the lead and go on to take the set 25-23.

ENC would control the third set from start to finish, and take it 25-16.

Down 2-1 in the match, Elms would get off to great start in the fourth set leading 12-6. The Lions would come back and tie the set up at 15-15. The Blazers would find themselves up 25-24 with a chance to take the set and even up the match but could not capitalize, leaving the door open for ENC. The Lions would score the next three points and take the set 27-25, and the match 3-1.

Ramos and Stewart would both end up with a double-double. Ramos picked up 26 kills and 19 digs, Stewart would get it with an impressive 43 assists and 11 digs. Lozada would lead the Blazers in digs with 26.

 The Blazers are back in action on Thursday 10/3 when they travel to Albertus Magnus at 7:00PM.
