Blazer Women's Volleyball Takes Four-Set Win In NECC-Opener

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team picked up a four-set win at Newbury College in the New England Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday. The Blazers won 25-13, 25-13, 22-25, 25-15 to improve to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in NECC play.

Ayanna Meadows (Springfield, Mass.) had 16 kills to lead three Blazers in double-figures in that department. She also finished with 16 digs for a double-double. Sabrina Christie (Agawam, Mass.) added 11 kills on just 14 attempts, hitting .714 and Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, Nev.) added 10 and 15 digs. Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) collected 35 assists for the Blazers and Kianna Lozada (Bayamon, P.R.) finished with a match-high 29 digs.

Monica Bolduk (Vernon, Conn.) tallied 13 kills for Newbury but the Nighthawks (2-7, 0-1 NECC) hit just .039 in the contest while the Blazers hit .222. Elms held a 92-72 advantage in digs and a 7-4 lead in aces in the contest.

Elms will return to action to host Lesley in NECC play on Sept. 29. Newbury will visit Southern Maine on Sept. 27.
