Volleyball Picks Up Five-Set Win At Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team escaped with a 3-2 victory at Westfield State on Wednesday after convincing wins in the first two sets. The Blazers won 25-12, 25-16, 14-25, 23-25, 15-11.

Ayanna Meadows (Springfield, Mass.) led Elms (7-3) with 15 kills and 26 digs. Rachel Magnuson (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Sabrina Christie (Agawam, Mass.) each added nine kills for the Blazers and Hannah Adams (Deerfield, Mass.) added eight.

Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, Nev.) tallied 11 kills but also had 13 errors. Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) racked up 40 assists and helped set the Blazers to a .118 hitting percentage for the match, and Kianna Lozada (Bayamon, P.R.) added 26 digs.

Westfield State was led by Hanna Simpkins (Walpole, N.H.), who tallied a team-high 12 kills and hit .235 in the match. Jess Haradon (Mansfield, Mass.) had 28 digs for the Owls and Karolyn Higgins (Billerica, Mass.) had 22 assists.

The Blazers open New England Collegiate Conference play on Sept. 22 at Newbury College while Westfield State visits Bridgewater State.
