Becker Edges Women's Volleyball In Four Sets

CHICOPEE, Mass. -The Elms College women's volleyball team fought hard across four set against Becker College, falling to the Hawks, 3-1 (11-25, 26-24, 19-25, 24-26), in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match at Picknelly Arena Wednesday evening.

The Blazers of Elms (5-19 / 2-5 NECC) were led by sophomore outside hitter Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, N.V. / Bishop Gorman) with 13 kills, 25 digs and two service aces. Senior setter Carolyn Campbell (Millers Falls, Mass. / Turners Falls) setup the Blazers' offense with 28 set assists. Freshman outside hitter Hannah Adams (Deerfield, Mass. / Frontier) added eight kills and 13 digs.

The Hawks of Becker (10-14 / 3-4 NECC) were led by senior middle blocker Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I. / Coventry) with eight kills and four total blocks. Sophomore libero Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va. / Mountain View) had one of her best defensive efforts of the season, racking up 26 digs. Junior setter Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) filled up the stat line with 15 set assists, a match-high four service aces, five kills, seven digs and three block assists. Senior outsider hitter Cheyenne Melanson (Sandown, N.H. / Timberlane) had eight kills, while freshman outside hitter Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional) added 14 digs and four kills.

The match was originally scheduled to played at Becker College, but was moved to Elms due to gym conditions.

Becker will conclude their regular season on Friday night when they host Daniel Webster College at 7:30 p.m. That match will be played at Anna Maria College. Elms will host Newbury College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in their final match of the season.
