Women's Volleyball Drops Five-Set Thriller to Bay Path

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball showed their resiliency, battling back to force five sets in a 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 10-15) loss to visiting Bay Path University in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match at Picknelly Arena Saturday afternoon. The Blazers move to 4-15 overall, and 1-4 in league play, while Bay Path improves to 2-3 in the NECC and 7-9 on the season. Saturday's match was the Blazers' DIG PINK match to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Blazers' attack was fueled by freshman Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, N.V.), who matched career-highs with 18 kills and seven service aces, while adding 15 digs, for her first collegiate double-double. Senior Alex Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied eight kills with 16 digs, while sophomore Lindsay McNiff (Kingston, Mass.) had seven kills and three blocks. Senior Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) matched a career-high with 40 assists, along with three aces and six digs. Sophomore Kate Moriarty (Agawam, Mass.) and freshman Rachel Magnuson (Miller Place, N.Y.) tallied six kills each.

Bay Path was paced by sophomore Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) with a team-high 16 kills and 14 digs. Senior Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) recorded 13 kills with four blocks and two digs. Freshman Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) dished out 36 assists with 11 digs and four aces, while junior Jennifer Pham (Springfield, Mass.) notched 12 digs and six kills. Freshman Jo Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) grabbed a match-high 25 digs, while freshman Taylor Heinbokel (Agawam, Mass.) added five aces, four digs and three kills in the win.

The Blazers will look to move back into the win column in a home conference match Tuesday night at Picknelly Arena against Daniel Webster College at 7:00 p.m. Bay Path hosts Mitchell College Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m.
