Redding Earns All-Tournament Honors at PSU Invitational

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball fell victim to a trio of defeats during the 2015 Plattsburgh State Invitational, hosted by the Cardinals on Friday and Saturday. The Blazers fell to Plattsburgh State, 3-0 (13-25, 12-25, 10-25) on Friday night, followed by a 3-0 loss to SUNY-Poly (17-25, 10-25, 19-25), and a five-set battle with Lasell (26-24, 12-25, 25-22, 12-25, 9-15) to wrap up the tournament. The Blazers move to 1-6 on the season.

Against the host Cardinals, freshman Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, N.V.) led the Blazers attack with a team-high six kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Senior J.C. Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman Rachel Magnuson (Miller Place, N.Y.) notched three kills apiece. Senior Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 14 assists with a team-high six digs.

Facing SUNY-Poly Saturday morning, Pickett knocked a team-high six kills, while senior Alex Mack (Wilbraham, Mass) added five kills and nine digs. Redding contributed four kills and two service aces, with a career-high four blocks. Bolton tallied 18 assists, and sophomores Kate Moriarty (Agawam, Mass.) and Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) grabbed 11 digs each.

In a five-set thriller against Lasell, Redding paced the Blazers with a team-high nine kills, along with a career-high 20 digs. Mack recorded a season-high eight kills with 14 digs, while Magnuson had six kills and 10 digs. Bolton registered her third double-double of the season with a match-high 27 assists and 18 digs. Moriarty had five kills and 10 digs, junior Carolyn Campbell (Millers Falls, Mass.) came off the bench with 12 digs, and Connor had 13 digs.

Redding was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts during the three matches. She has claimed All-Tournament honors twice this season, earning the status at the Blazer Invitational last weekend.

The Blazers will look to move back into the win column during a road trip to MCLA Thursday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
