SCHENECTADY, NY – Elms College senior
middle hitter Melissa Clark (Chicopee, MA)
registered a combined 29 digs but the Blazers were swept in a pair
of matches in day two action at the Union College Invitational.
Elms was swept by Oswego in its opening match 3-0 (14-25, 19-25,
23-25) and fell 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 14-25) to Utica in the second
contest. With the two setbacks, the Blazers are now 2-9 on the
season.
In the first match, Clark was impressive on the defensive side,
digging 18 balls while also connecting for five kills. Sophomore
outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, MA)
contributed 18 digs against Oswego while freshman outside hitter
Christina Martin (Chicopee, MA) downed five kills.
Senior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) handed
13 assists in the losing effort.
In the second match, Phillips registered a double-double, dishing
out 15 helpers and digging 11 balls to help pace the Blazer
offense. Clark led the team with 17 digs while Croteau rounded out
Elms’ three players with double-digit digs with 10.
Elms returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 22 with a 6:00 p.m. road
contest against Framingham State.
