Swimming Opens Up Home Schedule with Two Wins

Chicopee, MA - The Elms College women's and men's swim teams had their first home meet of the season this weekend against Saint Joseph's Maine. The Blazer women and men both came out on top, with scores of 127-115, and 104-82 respectively.

Of the many great swims by the Blazers, a few stood out over the rest. In the 50 Butterfly, Junior Victoria Wanko (South Yarmouth, MA) dropped 3 seconds from her previous best time while earning her first collegiate win of her swimming career. In the same event, Sophomore Nick Taylor (Turners Falls, MA) touched the wall 2nd in a very close race, however matched his best time from last season. Jake Connolly (Westbrook, ME) also scored his first collegiate swimming win in the 100 Breaststroke. In a very close 50 Freestyle, Julianne Gordon and Nia Major (Springfield, MA) both narrowly missed getting their hands on the wall first, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Cricket Cavar (Vernon, CT) and Kelly Scianna (Milforf, CT) both had great meets, each winning three events for the Blazers. The following Blazers won at least one event at the meet; Ryan Nodell (Monson, MA) - 50 Breast, Eddie Helldorfer - 100 Fly, Nick Taylor- 100 Back, Jake Connolly- 100 Breast, Victoria Wanko- 50 Fly, Micahel Losardo- 200IM. 

With these victories, the Blazer women progress to 1-1 on the season, and the Blazer men advance to 2-0. Both teams return to action this Friday, 11/8 at 4pm at home against the University of Saint Josephs, CT and Albertus Magnus.
