Women’s Swimming Glides Past Regis College, Pride Defeat Men’s Swimming

WESTON, Mass. – Elms College freshman Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle and notched three victories to help pace the Blazers' women's team to a 139.5-97.5 win over Regis College, while the Pride earned a 122-95 victory over the men's team in Saturday afternoon's men's and women's swim meet.

With the win, Elms' women's team improves to 10-1 overall, while the men's team falls to 3-5 on the season.

For the women, DeGrazia swam to a new school record time of 2:04.39 in the 200-yard freestyle and added wins in the 50-yard backstroke (30.72) and 100-yard backstroke (1:05.16).

Sophomore Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.) secured two wins each as Dudunake won the 50-yard freestyle (26.82) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.91). Kirchner secured her victories in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, clocking times of 33.98 and 58.48 respectively.

Freshman Julia Lane (West Springfield, Mass.) also won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:35.46.

Lane also teamed with junior Katie Roberts (Torrington, Conn.), sophomore Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior Theresa Pitassi (Naugatuck, Conn.) to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:08.52.  

On the men's side, junior Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.66) and finished second in the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard individual medley with times of 30.48 and 1:05.77.

Sophomore Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) tallied a first and two seconds highlighted by his first place swim in the 1650-yard freestyle (19:48.15). He finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.39) and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.19.

Sophomore Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) and junior Nick Provost (Three Rivers, Mass.) won the 50-yard butterfly (27.55) and 100-yard individual medley (1:03.77) events respectively.

The women's team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's College (Conn.) in its final regular season dual meet of the season. The men's team travels to Vassar College on Saturday, Feb. 12 for its regular season finale with first event set for 1:00 p.m.
