Women's Swimming Finishes Fourth In GNAC Championship

BOSTON, MA, Dec. 7, 2008 - Elms College freshman Ashley Arbo (Rocky Hill, CT) earned All-Tournament Team honors to help lead the women's swim team to a fourth place finish at this weekend's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship hosted by Simmons College.

The Blazers tallied 41.5 points in the two-day championship which concluded on Sunday. Host Simmons easily won the team title with a score of 180. St. Joseph's (ME) (111), St. Joseph (CT) (90), Elms College (41.5), Husson (33), Wheelock (24) and Norwich (18.5) rounded out the seven-team field.

Arbo, who earned an individual title in Saturday's 50-yard backstroke, placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.39) and fourth in the 50-yard butterfly (30.77) on Sunday.

Arbo, freshman Katie Roberts (Torrington, CT), sophomore Teresa Pitassi (Naugatuck, CT) and senior Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA) teamed to earn a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:56.23).

Pitassi placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.51) and Roberts was fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:24.78).

The Blazers return to dual-meet action on Saturday, January 10 at Mount St. Mary's. Meet time is 1:00 p.m.
