NORTHAMPTON, MA, Nov. 13, 2007 - Elms College sophomore Marie Waterhouse (East Longmeadow, MA) won the 100-yard backstroke and added a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, but the Blazers fell to Smith College 149-98 in Tuesday's non-conference women's swimming dual meet at Smith.

With the victory Smith College improves to a record of 2-1 on the season while Elms College drops to a mark of 2-2. 

Waterhouse outpaced the competitors in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 1:03.69.  Waterhouse would later earn a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:20.47.

Elms College sophomore Liz Walker (Holyoke, MA) won the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:13.76.  Blazer sophomore Kathleen Towle (Brockton, MA) completed the 200-yard individual medley in 2:45.15, taking first place in the event. 

In all, Smith College took first place in 11 of 15 events to outscore the visiting Blazers.   Freshman Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN), junior Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL), and senior Marly Pineda (Bosque Farms, NM) each won a pair of events for the Pioneers.  Seidman won the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.78) and was the third leg of the Smith College 200-yard medley relay team that won with a time of 2:04.40.  Kotey finished first in both the 50-yard freestyle (26.40) and 50-yard butterfly (30.29).  Pineda took first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.64) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.99).

Elms College returns to action with a dual meet Saturday, November 17 at Colby-Sawyer.  Meet time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
