Women's Swimming Competes Against Eastern Connecticut, Wheelock

CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 31, 2007 - Elms College freshman Elizabeth Walker (Holyoke, MA) broke a pair of school records and won a pair of events in Wednesday night's women's swimming non-scoring meet with Eastern Connecticut State and Wheelock College at Partyka Natatorium.

With the non-scoring meet, Elms College remains 5-8, Eastern Connecticut remains 5-3-1, and Wheelock remains 2-4.

Walker won both the 200-meter and 100-meter breaststroke events with school record setting times of 2:52.32 and 1:19.46 respectively. Her time in the 200-meter breaststroke also set a new pool record.

Freshman Kathleen Towle (Brockton, MA) qualified for New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championship with a time of 2:58.74 in the 200-meter individual medley.

Eastern Connecticut junior Sarah Barber (Meriden, CT) set a Partyka Natatorium record in the 800-meter freestyle clocking a time of 9:49.37. Barber also notched wins in the 200-meter butterfly (2:38.84) and 400-meter freestyle (4:51.26).

Freshman Marie Waterhouse (East Longmeadow, MA) recorded two wins in the 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke events, registering times of 34.20 and 1:14.29 respectively. Her also set a new school record in the 200-meter, as she was victorious in both the 50-meter breaststroke (38.53) and 50-meter butterfly (34.18).

Eastern Connecticut received a pair of victories from freshman Jessica Wilson (Torrington, CT) in the 200-meter freestyle (2:30.56) and the 200-meter individual medley (2:45.81).

Wheelock sophomore Chelsea Gibbons (South Dennis, MA) won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 30.18.

Freshman Mike Starke (Chicopee, MA) set a school record for the men in the 200-meter breaststroke, and freshman Mark Pirruccio (Brewster, MA) clocked wins in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events with times of 26.56 and 1:01.39 respectively.

The Blazers return to the pool Saturday, February 3, when they travel to Regis College. Meet time is 1:00 p.m.
