BOSTON, MA, Dec. 2, 2006 - Elms College freshman Liz Walker (Holyoke, MA) broke a pair of school records, and finished first in two events as the Blazers finished second in Saturday's Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship meet hosted by Simmons College.

Elms College's second place finish in a field of seven teams, is its best ever finish at the GNAC Championship.

The team of freshman Marie Waterhouse (East Longmeadow, MA), sophomore Kate Orefice (Southington, CT), Walker, and junior Kaity Jo Bryll (East Hartland, CT), set both a Simmons pool record, and team record in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:28.11.

Freshman Kathleen Towle (Brockton, MA) was a finalist in the 500-yard freestyle, and later placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Waterhouse set both a Simmons pool record, and school record with her first place finish in the 50-yard backstroke in a time 24.36. Sophomore Sarah Lapolice (West Springfield, MA) also placed in the event for the Blazers, and later placed in both the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke.

Walker set a school record and finished first in the 50-yard breaststroke, recording a time of 33.17, while Orefice placed second.

Walker then placed second 100-yard butterfly setting a school record with a time of 1:06.43.

Waterhouse placed in the 200-yard backstroke setting a school record of 2:23.40 in the process.

Walker and Orefice finished first and third respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke for the Blazers.

Bryll placed in the 100-yard freestyle and joined Orefice in placing in the 50-yard butterfly.

Waterhouse was a finalist, and set a school record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:16.17. Freshman Nicole Denette (Chicopee, MA) and classmate Stephanie Soriano (Cheshire, MA) were also finalists in the event.

The women return to action Wednesday, December 6, when they host Mount Holyoke at Partyka Natatorium. Meet time is set for 7:00 p.m.
