Basua's Late Penalty Kick Earns Women's Soccer Draw At Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Elms College Women's Soccer traveled to Colby-Sawyer College for a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colby-Saywer would take five shots in the opening 15 minutes, with first year goalkeepers Breanna White (Lafayette, La.) and Sofia Rivers (Hamilton, Ohio) making a combined three saves. Shortly thereafter, the Elms offense would see some life after back-to-back shots on goal from senior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.). The two conference foes would trade possession, but would then see a pair of shots from senior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.) and junior forward Emily Basua (Oxnard, Calif.). Unfortunately, neither shot would find the back of the net, and the two GNAC opponents would go into the halftime break with a scoreless tie.

In the opening minutes of the second half, junior forward Kaylee Little (Boston, Mass.) would put a shot on net, but would be saved by the Chargers goalkeeper. Moments later, CSC would score a goal to break the scoring deficit for both teams. As the half continued, the Blazers would see shooting attempts from Lee, Little, junior defender Sydney Polica (Stratford, Conn.), and McDonough, but then a foul would be called in the box for a penalty kick attempt. Basua would then take her shot and score the equalizing goal. As the clock would wind down, the two teams would trade possession, but neither side would take a shot, and the game would end in a 1-1 draw.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Basua would score the lone goal, with two shots.

• McDonough and Little would shoot a combined seven shots.

• White and Rivers would make a combined five saves after facing six shots.

• Lee and Polica would take a combined three shots.
