Women’s Soccer Slips Up At Becker

Leicester, MA – The Elms College women's soccer team suffered a tough set back at Becker College on Saturday morning. The Blazers would fall 1-0 in in the first overtime period, the loss puts Elms at 9-7-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference.

The OT goal originated from the Becker defensive third after a foul on the Blazers. The restart would be played out to the right wing of the offensive third. Becker was then able to center a cross that bounced over the Blazers backline sending them in with a breakaway on goal. The initial shot was stopped by Blazers senior goalie Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, CT), who came off her line to cut down the angle. The rebound careened to the feet of a Hawk, who settled the ball and chipped it into the back of the Blazer net.

Chances for both teams came at a premium, but the Blazers owned the best opportunity in the middle of the second half with junior Cristina Rojas (Holyoke, MA) nearly breaking the draw in the 72nd minute. A loose ball bounced favorably for Rojas at the top-right corner of the six-yard box. After turning toward goal, Rojas fired off a right-footed shot that hit the outside top corner of the net, denying the Blazers and keeping the match scoreless.

Elms almaost took an early lead when Sydney Goodwin (Lawrence, MA) lined up a free kick in the fifth minute from 25 yards away, just offset to the right of the Hawks goal. Goodwin's attempt at goal worked through a maze of bodies, nearly being flicked toward goal, but the free kick passed just wide of the left post of the Hawks net.

The Blazers are back in action when they travel to Bay Path University at 3:30PM for their final NECC game of the year.
