Blazers Tame Bulldogs In NECC Play

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's soccer team picked up a home conference win over the visiting Dean College Bulldogs on Wednesday night on Leary Field. The Blazers would have three different players score in the 3-1 win.

Elms would get off to solid start, controlling the possession and dominating the stat column. The Blazers would be awarded a free kick from about 20 yards out after the Bulldogs were whistled for a handball at the 13:23 mark. Sydney Goodwin (Lawrence, MA) would step up and deliver a perfect strike up and over the wall and into the back of the net, giving her team a 1-0 lead.

The Blazers would double their lead just over five minutes later. Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) and Shannon Denault (Chicopee, MA) would execute a perfect give-and-go that put Pasquel in 1v1 with the Dean keeper. Pasquel would slot a shot into the right side netting, doubling the lead to 2-0.

The second half started the same as the first with Elms controlling the game. The Blazers would add a third goal in the 53rd minute when Goodwin and Paige Silva (Swansea, MA) were able to combine and set up Denault for her 4th marker of the season.

The Bulldogs would make a push to get back into the game and start to apply pressure on the Blazer goal. A Key save from Becca Molin (West Hartford, CT) would keep Dean off of the board. The Bulldogs pressure would eventually pay off in the 86th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick, and would covert it for their lone goal of the contest.

The Blazers are back in action on Saturday 10/26 at 10AM when they travel to Becker College for a NECC game.
