Blazers Sink Mariners On Senior Day

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's soccer team picked up another win on Saturday afternoon over the visiting Mitchell College Mariners in conference play on Leary Field. The Blazers improve to 8-6-2 overall and 3-0-1 in NECC action.

Elms started the day by honoring their seven seniors, Haley Richard (Monson, MA), Jordan Bailey (Monson, MA), Lexi Griffin (West Springfield, MA), Becca Molin (West Hartford, CT), Maddie Bernard (Chicopee, MA), Zaya Clark (Springfield, MA) and Shannon Denault (Chicopee, MA).

The Blazers took that momentum from senior day and transitioned it into the game, scoring five minutes in. Denault hit a perfect through ball sending Clark in 1-on-1 with the Mitchell keeper, she was able to slot a perfect shot into the side netting, giving Elms an early 1-0 lead. The home side would extend the lead at 32:09 mark, when Kayla Pasquel (North Attelboro, MA) laid a pass back to Richard who was able to find Elaina Vilar (Watertown, MA) for a one-time shot that would find the back of the Mariner net. The Blazer backline stood tall only allowing one shot that was saved by Molin in the openning half.

Elms would come out in the second half and keep the pressure on Mitchell. The Blazers didn't wait long to strike, Griffin would set up Pasquel with a perfect pass that allowed her to send a shot into the right side netting, extending the lead to 3-0. The Blazers would push the lead to 4-0 just two minutes later when Bernard stepped up and converted a penalty kick.
