Women’s Soccer Tames Lyons

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's soccer team defeated the visiting Mount Holyoke College Lyons 2-0 on Saturday evening on Leary Field, the Blazers improve to (5-2) on the season.

The first half saw the Blazers come out with energy and dominate the first 20 minutes. Elms would take eight shots hitting the frame five time, but were unable to convert. The rest of the half saw back and forth action with most if the play taking place in the middle of the field, and neither team getting any real chances. The Blazers would outshot the Lyons 8-3 in the opening frame and head into the break tied up 0-0.

The second half started the same way the first half ended, with both teams unable to get any real chances. The Blazers were able to get more and more dangerous and at the 54:11 mark took the lead. Paige Silva (Swansea, MA) would send in a perfect cross where Elaina Vilar (Watertown, CT) was able to hit a one touch shot past the Holyoke keeper into the top of the net. The Blazers would continue to apply pressure and would double their lead in the 67th minute. Kayle Pasquel (North Attleboro,MA) was able to gather a loose ball, dribble past three defenders before hitting a left footed strike into the right side netting to give Elms a 2-0 advantage.

The Lyons would push hard to try and get back into the game, but the Blazers back line was up to the test.

Becca Molin (West Hartford, CT) would stop all four shots she faced to preserve the shutout.  

Elms is back in action on Tuesday 9/17 when they host Western New England University at 7:00PM on Leary Field
