WORCESTER, Mass. – The Elms College women's soccer squad used a goal from junior Angelina Estrada (Springfield, Mass.) with 1:24 to play to push ahead of host Clark University in a 1-0 non-conference victory at Granger Turf Field Tuesday night. With the win, the Blazers improve to 8-1-1 on the season, while Clark drops to 6-2-1 overall.

The Blazers pressed the field early behind shots from juniors Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) and Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.), but saves by Cougars freshman keeper Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn.) kept the match scoreless. In the 25th minute, the Blazers threatened again on a corner kick as senior Kathleen Tuechler (Farmingdale, N.Y.) went for a header off the lofted ball, but Christy came up big for the Cougars again. Elms freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) turned aside an offering from Clark senior Kara Fischer (Belmont, Mass.) at the 27:38 mark to maintain a scoreless contest into the break.

The Cougars attempted to crack the scoreboard in the 49th minute behind another strike from Fischer, but Molin held strong between the pipes. After 88 minutes of scoreless play, the Blazers mounted one final surge, led by shots from junior Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) and Voight, and then capped off as Estrada gathered a rolling ball through the Cougar defense and ripped a shot into the upper left corner, sending Elms to the 1-0 victory.

The Blazers edged the Cougars, 8-7, during the contest. Molin logged a pair of saves in her seventh shutout of the season, while Christy made a game-high six saves in the loss.

The Blazers will be back in action when they host Becker College in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tilt at Leary Field Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Clark travels to New England College for a non-conference match Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
